Accident in tests with nuclear submarine leaves 20 dead in Russia
More than 20 people died in an accident recorded on board a nuclear submarine of the Russian Pacific Fleet during sea trials, informed the spokesman of the Russian Navy, captain Igor Digalo. The captain reported that at the time of the accident, there were 208 persons aboard, of whom 81 are soldiers.
So far, 21 wounded were taken to various severity of anti-submarine vessel "Admiral Tributs" that accompanies the nuclear submarine base near the ship to rescue "Sayany."
The submarine received orders to suspend the testing and return to base, according to official Russian agency "RIA Novosti". Russian military confirmed that the submarine is returning to the base and that the reactors operate normally.
"I declare my responsibility that the submarine's reactors and to work with normal levels of radiation are the standard," stressed Digalo.
