Republican Senator announces agreement on plan to rescue U.S.

The Republican senator, Judd Gregg, announced in this Sunday (28), that legislators from North America reached an agreement on the details of the plan to rescue the financial sector, which will now be brought to a vote in Congress.

"We have the secretary (of the Treasury, Henry Paulson) the authority and the resources and flexibility needed - that he feels are needed - and, of course, he has the last word to move and stabilize the credit markets and freeing the credit markets, "said Gregg to journalists, after disclosing the project agreed.

The expectation is that the package is voted in the Chamber of Deputies on Monday (29) until Wednesday (1) in the Senate.

The buy-back program, proposed last week by the government, envisages the use of $ 700 billion for the purchase of securities held by banks' rotten. The intention is to unblock the flow of credit, which is currently paralyzed by the presence of active "toxic" in the balance sheets of financial institutions.

The Chairman of the Committee on Financial Services of the Chamber of Deputies, the Democrat Barney Frank, said the House vote the bill on Monday.

Already the Senate faces problems more complicated to approve it. Leaders need to determine whether any senator is considering procedural obstacles to slow down the process. Furthermore, a Jewish holiday will stop work on Monday and they will resume only on Tuesday.

"The sooner that the Senate can work on it is on Wednesday," a source told the agency Reuter, who preferred not be identified.
